Washington Post: Durham report sharply criticizes FBI’s 2016 Trump campaign probe 

Special counsel John Durham has issued a long-awaited report that sharply criticizes the FBI for investigating the 2016 Trump campaign based on “raw, unanalyzed, and uncorroborated intelligence” — a conclusion that may fuel rather than end partisan debate about politicization within the Justice Department and FBI. 

Durham was tapped in 2019 by President Donald Trump’s attorney general, William P. Barr, to reexamine how government agents hunted for possible links between the Trump campaign and Russian efforts to interfere in the presidential election. 

The very appointment — of an investigator to reinvestigate the investigators — led to significant criticism from current and former law enforcement officials.

* National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is being accused of a conflict of interest and called on to step down after the latest Durham probe filing 

* On Friday Durham alleged that Hillary Clinton's campaign paid a tech firm to infiltrate Trump Tower and later White House servers to make Trump-Russia link 

* Sullivan, who at the time was on Clinton's team, released a statement in Oct 2016 reacting to a supposed link between Trump and a Russian bank 

* Republican lawmakers are raising concerns about him now having a significant role in US foreign policy amid Russia's escalating crisis with Ukraine 

* Sources told Fox News in November that Sullivan is the 'foreign policy adviser' in former Clinton lawyer Michael Sussman's indictment 

* There is no indication that Sullivan is a target of John Durham's investigation 

* But it is the closest the Special Counsel has come in his probe to anyone directly associated with President Joe Biden's White House 

* Suggests Sullivan was in touch with Michael Sussman, who's denied lying to FBI 

Republicans are calling for increased scrutiny on President Joe Biden's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan after the longtime Democratic operative's links to Special Counsel John Durham's investigation were revived in the wake of a bombshell new court filing. 

Durham's probe into the origins of the Russian investigation moved closer to the White House late last year with a report that Sullivan was the 'foreign policy adviser' mentioned in the indictment of former Hillary Clinton presidential campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann.

Igor Y. Danchenko, a Russian-born analyst living in the United States, was arrested on Thursday in Virginia by federal agents assigned to John H. Durham's special counsel inquiry into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, according to the Justice Department.

The Guardian on Thursday published an explosive report based on the purported Kremlin documents, but nearly all US outlets have refrained from covering the story, aside from commentary expressing skepticism about the documents. 

More than 24 hours later, the New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS all remain silent on the left-leaning British newspaper's claims.

Vladimir Putin personally authorised a secret spy agency operation to support a “mentally unstable” Donald Trump in the 2016 US presidential election during a closed session of Russia’s national security council, according to what are assessed to be leaked Kremlin documents. 

The key meeting took place on 22 January 2016, the papers suggest, with the Russian president, his spy chiefs and senior ministers all present. 

They agreed a Trump White House would help secure Moscow’s strategic objectives, among them “social turmoil” in the US and a weakening of the American president’s negotiating position.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered the declassification of a binder of documents related to the FBI's Russia probe that led to a long investigation of his 2016 presidential campaign.

In one of his final acts in office, Trump, who has long wanted to prove Democrats sought to use the probe to oust him, said in a memorandum that some redactions have been made to the documents in order to allow their public disclosure.
