Not Everyone In Silicon Valley Is Avoiding Doing Business With America’s Military And Spy Agencies

Yahoo News: In Silicon Valley, a new breed of investors is seeking closer ties to America’s military and spy agencies 

A budding group of venture capital firms and investors are working with the CIA and other U.S. intelligence and military agencies in an attempt to help shape the future of Silicon Valley, ensuring companies produce innovations useful for national security while avoiding funding from potential adversaries like China. 

Call it the new world of "spooky finance." 

These firms — like New North Ventures, Harpoon, Scout Ventures, and Razor's Edge — are often themselves staffed by former U.S. intelligence and military officials, and sometimes work together to cofund national-security-related startups in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and next-generation communications.

WNU Editor: There are billions in contracts that are just sitting there for Silicon Valley companies to grab. The big tech giants may not be interested in pursuing these deals, but there are a lot of other companies and investors who are.

Report Says Big Tech Has Made Billions During 'War On Terror'

France 24: Big Tech made billions during 'war on terror': report 

Tech giants made billions through contracts with the US military and other government agencies during the so-called "war on terror", according to a report released ahead of the 20th anniversary of 9/11. 

The "Big Tech Sells War" report, published Thursday by three US campaign groups, documented an explosion of government contracts with Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter since 2004. 

The tech companies' contracts were "primarily with agencies central to the War on Terror," said the report.

The Company That Literally Started Silicon Valley Is Now Moving Out Of Silicon Valley To Texas

 


New York (CNN Business)Hewlett-Packard traces its origins to 1938, when Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard rented a garage in Palo Alto, California. 

Now, HP Enterprises, a descendant of the pioneering company, is moving to Texas. 

The company announced its move Tuesday. 

Houston is currently Hewlett-Packard Enterprises' largest US employment hub, and the company is constructing a new campus in the city. HPE will also consolidate a number of its Bay Area sites to its San Jose campus. 

The move won't result in any layoffs.
