Insider: Russia is trying to sell other countries the new 'cutting-edge' tank that Moscow itself apparently doesn't really want to buy 

* Russia's state-run arms maker is marketing the new T-14 Armata tank for export. 

* The T-14 is considered highly advanced, with features said to match or exceed those of NATO's tanks. 

* But Moscow has reduced its own purchases of Armatas, raising doubt about its ability to build them. 

Russia wants other nations to buy its advanced T-14 Armata, but Russia itself doesn't seem that interested in the new tank. 

The Russian army has bought few T-14s, and the Armata has been largely absent from what should have been its baptism of fire — the Ukraine war. 

Nonetheless, Rosoboronexport — the state arms company that manufactures the Armata — tried to sell the new tank at Army 2022, a big defense trade show sponsored by the Russian government.

WNU Editor: These T-14 tanks are expensive. I suspect that the Russian Ministry of Defense made the decision that it is cheaper to modernize their existing tank inventories than to buy thousands of new T-14s.

Sputnik: Trial by Fire and Sand: Russian Armata Battle Tank Gets Tested in Syria

As Russia's minister of trade and industry explained, the T-14 Armata main battle tank has no analogues in the world, and is constantly undergoing a cycle of additional tests and upgrades.

It appears that one of the most advanced armored combat vehicles in Russia's military arsenal, the T-14 Armata main battle tank, has undergone testing in Syria, the site of a violent armed conflict which has raged since 2011.

As Russian Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov explained, such tests help understand how the tank would perform under battlefield conditions, and allows any kinks to be ironed out before the vehicle becomes available for export.

* Russia is equipping its state-of-the-art T-14 Armata main battle tanks with toilets to make it easier for troops to take care of business in the field, Russian state media reported Thursday.
* The high cost of the new tanks coupled with repeated budget cuts led Russia to drastically reduce its planned order from more than two thousand to just 100 last year.
* Much like Russia's Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter, the Russians have put off mass production while putting greater emphasis on improving older systems.

It's hard to wage war when nature calls, so Russia is installing toilets in its troubled third-generation T-14 main battle tanks, Russian state media revealed Thursday.

The days of relieving themselves in fuel and ammo cans or hopping out to dig single-use latrines are apparently over for Russia's tank crews, at least those manning the T-14 Armata tanks, Ilya Baranov, a senior official at the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Machine-Building in Yekaterinburg, told TASS News Agency.

"A major hassle for [tank crews] is that they cannot relieve their natural functions," Baranov explained, "That is, water and field rations are available in the tank, but all the other conveniences are, unfortunately, absent."

The T-14 Armata will kill tanks from three times as far, but does it matter?

Russia's next-generation main battle tank can fire an anti-tank missile at targets more than seven miles away. That gives the T-14 Armata tank, set to begin testing with the Russian Army in 2019, nearly twice the range of the America's latest version of the venerable Abrams, the M1A2 SEP V3. Whether this extended range is all the useful is another matter.

The T-14 is a formidable-looking beast. Armed with a new 125-millimeter main gun, an unmanned turret, modular armor, and an active protection system designed to shoot down incoming missiles, the vehicle has caused a stir within NATO's tank community. One particularly dangerous feature is the Armata's ability to destroy targets at ranges of up to 12 kilometers, or 7.4 miles.

Russia is just about to unveil its latest armored platform, the T-14 tank.

The tank, called the Armata, has largely been kept under wraps although technical details about the platform have steadily been emerging. The Armata is planned to feature considerable upgrades to the armor, engine, and armaments of the vehicle over previous Russian and Soviet tank models.

Until the tank is actually seen in action, any claims as to the Armata's capabilities could be nothing more than propaganda, an overstatement reminiscent of Russia's improbable claims that it's working on a supersonic transport jet.
