The Hill: Gabbard defeats man in push-up contest at New Hampshire town hall

During a town hall in New Hampshire Thursday night, Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii) was asked if she could beat former Vice President Joe Biden in a pushup contest, sparking an impromptu challenge with a supporter.

“Former Vice President Biden has randomly challenged people in the audience to a pushup contest even if they’re in walkers. ... Do you think you could take him?” the supporter questioned, according to The Washington Post.

“My educated and informed guess would be yes,” Gabbard replied. “However, Joe Biden may have some superhuman pushup ability that nobody knows about. But I would take most people to a pushup challenge.”

Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii was the only member of her party to vote 'present' on two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump during Wednesday's historic vote.

Gabbard, a Democratic presidential candidate, did not speak on the floor while leaders of both parties doled out slots in 30-second and one-minute increments. When the voting finally occurred Wednesday night, she voted 'present' on both an abuse of power article and one accusing Trump of obstructing Congress by thwarting the impeachment inquiry.

She was seen standing agains the back wall of the chamber on the side where Republicans sit during the second vote.

Washington Examiner: Hillary Clinton says Tulsi Gabbard is a 'Russian asset' groomed to ensure Trump reelection

Hillary Clinton said that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is being groomed by Moscow to run as a third-party spoiler candidate in 2020 to help President Trump win reelection.

The former secretary of state pushed the theory on Campaign HQ podcast hosted by David Plouffe, President Barack Obama’s campaign manager in 2008.

Plouffe and Clinton discussed hurdles the Democratic nominee would face and compared the 2020 race to Clinton’s loss to Trump in 2016. Plouffe asked Clinton about the part third-party candidates, such as Jill Stein of the Green Party, played in 2016, allowing Trump to secure key states.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) has a message for the liberals attacking her criticism of President Trump’s missile strikes on Syria, warning that a rush to aggression risks repeating the same mistakes that led the United States into the Iraq War.

“We need to learn from Iraq and Libya –– wars that were propagated as necessary to relieve human suffering, but actually increased human suffering many times over,” she said in an email to The Hill.

The Hawaii Democrat, who served two tours in Iraq, has been highly critical of Trump’s decision last Thursday to launch 59 missiles into a Syrian airfield in response to a deadly chemical attack that killed scores of civilians, including children, in a western Syria town days before.

CNN: Gabbard says she met with Assad on Syria trip

(CNN)Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard met with President Bashar al-Assad during a secret, four-day trip to Syria, she told CNN's Jake Tapper Wednesday.

"When the opportunity arose to meet with him, I did so because I felt that it's important that if we profess to truly care about the Syrian people, about their suffering, then we've got to be able to meet with anyone that we need to if there is a possibility that we can achieve peace," the Hawaiian congresswoman said.

When asked by Tapper whether she had reservations about meeting with Assad, who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Syrian civilians, Gabbard said there has to be a dialogue between the US and Syria.

Washington (AFP) - A US congresswoman made a rare secret visit to Syria as part of her effort toward ending the years-long conflict in the Middle Eastern nation, her office said Wednesday.

House Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, an Iraq war veteran, made a fact-finding mission to the capital Damascus despite continued fighting in the war-torn country in contravention of a frail ceasefire.

"As an individual committed to doing all she can to promote and work for peace, she felt it was important to meet with a number of individuals and groups including religious leaders, humanitarian workers, refugees and government and community leaders," said Gabbard spokeswoman Emily Latimer.

Washington (CNN)Hawaii Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard met with President-elect Donald Trump and his transition team Monday.

Gabbard, who backed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary, is being considered for jobs at the Defense Department, State Department and the United Nations, a source told CNN.

Gabbard stepped down from her post as a vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee earlier in the year to support Sanders -- and fight Hillary Clinton -- in the primaries. She stood by Sanders through the Democratic convention, only announcing she would vote for Clinton days after the convention ended.

"President-elect Trump asked me to meet with him about our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as other foreign policy challenges we face," Gabbard said in a statement. "

I felt it important to take the opportunity to meet with the President-elect now before the drumbeats of war that neocons have been beating drag us into an escalation of the war to overthrow the Syrian government -- a war which has already cost hundreds of thousands of lives and forced millions of refugees to flee their homes in search of safety for themselves and their families.

WASHINGTON — Between the chilly temperatures and the pace of the push-ups, there was plenty to complain about after eight lawmakers straggled into the park behind the Longworth House Office Building for their regular 6:30 a.m. workout.

While the others in the group griped and groaned on a recent Tuesday, Representative Tulsi Gabbard, 34, her Hindu prayer beads wrapped around a wrist for her daily yoga meditation, said little.

“Tulsi, you hearing a lot of whining?” asked Representative Markwayne Mullin, a burly Oklahoma Republican and former professional mixed martial arts fighter who leads the workouts, mocking the complaints of her companions.

“I’m feeling like whining,” she replied between push-ups.
