CENTCOM Say US Forces Killed Nearly 700 ISIS Operatives In Syria And Iraq In 2022

The Hill: Officials say US forces killed almost 700 suspected ISIS members in 2022 

U.S. forces killed almost 700 suspected Islamic State operatives in 2022, including the leader of the group, dozens of regional leaders and hundreds of fighters.  

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a release on Thursday that it conducted 313 operations against ISIS over the past year, killing 466 operatives in Syria and at least 220 operatives in Iraq. Officials also detained 215 operatives in Syria and 159 operatives in Iraq.  

The release states that no U.S. forces were injured or killed in the operations, a majority of which were conducted with the United States’s allies in the two countries.

United States Has Killed Two Senior Islamic State Members In A Helicopter Raid In Eastern Syria

 

Al Jazeera: Two ISIL rebels killed in US helicopter raid in Syria: CENTCOM 

US Central Command announces the killing less than two weeks after ISIL announced its leader was killed in battle. 

United States forces have killed two members of the ISIL (ISIS) armed group in eastern Syria in a helicopter raid, the US military said in a statement on Sunday without specifying the location of the overnight operation. 

The forces “conducted a successful helicopter raid in eastern Syria at 2:57am (23:57 GMT)… killing two ISIS officials,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, using an alternative acronym for ISIL.

Islamic State Leader Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi Blows Himself Up With His Family During A U.S. Special Forces Raid On His Home In Syria

President Joe Biden confirmed the leader of ISIS is dead after he blew himself and his family up during a raid by U.S. commandos on a house in northwest Syria on Thursday. 

Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi set off a bomb that killed himself as well as members of this family, the White House said. 

Thirteen were killed, including six children and four women during the mission, which involved 24 Special Operations commandos backed by attack jets, Reaper drones and helicopter gunships.

VOA: Displaced Mozambicans Optimistic About US Support for Counterinsurgency Efforts 

WASHINGTON - Mozambicans who have been forced from their homes because of the ongoing conflict in the northern part of their country say Washington’s pledge to train Mozambican security forces brings a glimmer of hope that their situation will improve. 

Last week, the U.S. embassy in Mozambique announced plans to train Mozambican security forces to combat violent extremism in the country’s north.

Earlier this month, the U.S. State Department designated an Islamic State (IS) affiliate in Mozambique as a foreign terrorist organization — along with another IS affiliate in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
