US Evacuates American Diplomats And Their Families From Sudan
Reuters: US embassy staff evacuated from war-torn Sudan, RSF says
KHARTOUM (Reuters) -The U.S. military evacuated American diplomats and their families from Sudan, the country's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said early on Sunday as fighting between rival commanders that has killed hundreds of civilians continued.
The operation, involving six aircraft, was carried out in coordination with the RSF, it said.
Separately, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters the U.S. military had successfully evacuated U.S. embassy personnel.
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

ABC News: White House warns American citizens not to count on evacuation from Sudan
An estimated 16,000 US nationals are still in the war-torn country.
As the violent struggle for power over Sudan reaches the one-week mark, the Biden administration is sticking firmly to its warning for private citizens: don’t expect to be rescued.
While the administration says it is working towards evacuating American embassy staff still stranded in the country, it makes no promises about other Americans who could get let behind.
"It is not our standard procedure to evacuate American citizens living abroad," White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Friday.

U.S. Positioning Troops For Possible Evacuation Of American Embassy In Sudan
CNN: US deploying ‘additional capabilities’ near Sudan to assist with potential embassy evacuation
The US military is deploying “additional capabilities” nearby Sudan to secure the US embassy in the country and assist with a potential evacuation, if the situation calls for it, the Defense Department announced on Thursday.
That includes hundreds of Marines who are already in Camp Lemmonier in Djibouti, a US defense official told CNN, with aircraft capable of bringing in ground units to secure an embassy.
“The Department of Defense, through U.S. Africa Command, is monitoring the situation in Sudan and conducting prudent planning for various contingencies,” a statement from Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Phil Ventura said. “As part of this, we are deploying additional capabilities nearby in the region for contingency purposes related to securing and potentially facilitating the departure of U.S. Embassy personnel from Sudan, if circumstances require it.”

Compensation payment pledged for alleged role in bombing of two US embassies.
Washington has removed Sudan from a terrorism blacklist after the country agreed to pay $335m in compensation for its alleged role in the bombing of two US embassies in east Africa by al-Qaida in 1998.
Donald Trump tweeted the news of the deal on Monday. “GREAT news! New government of Sudan, which is making great progress, agreed to pay $335 MILLION to U.S. terror victims and families.
Once deposited, I will lift Sudan from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list. At long last, JUSTICE for the American people and BIG step for Sudan!” he wrote.
Sudan’s transitional government, which took power following the fall of the veteran dictator Omar al-Bashir last year, has in recent months been under increasing pressure from US officials to pay the compensation.
