Antiwar Protesters Demonstrate Across The U.S. Condemning The Killing Of Suleimani

USA Today: Outraged Americans condemn US actions in Iraq and Iran: 'Enough with this nonsense'

Demonstrators took to the streets across the U.S. on Saturday to protest the Trump administration's killing of a top Iranian general and decision to send about 3,000 more soldiers to the Middle East.

“No justice, no peace. U.S. out of the Middle East,” about 200 protesters chanted near the Trump Tower in Chicago. Protesters held signs that read “Stop bombing Iraq” and “U.S. troops out of Iraq.”

More than 70 planned protests were being spearheaded by Act Now to Stop War and End Racism, a U.S.-based anti-war coalition, in conjunction with other organizations. They seek withdrawal of U.S.troops from Iraq and end to what it says is a war on Iran, according to spokesperson Walter Smolarek.

Where Are The Anti-War Democrats?

Millions of people are expected to take to the streets of towns and cities across the globe on Saturday to demonstrate against a looming U.S. led war on Iraq in the biggest protests since the Vietnam war. February 15, 2003. (Reuters / Peter MacDiarmid)

Peter Beinart, The Atlantic: Where Are the Anti-War Democrats on Iran?

Liberal doves need to find candidates who can bring Congress's foreign policy into line with the desires of the American people.

Many in Congress want the chance to kill the Iran deal. President Obama doesn’t want to give them that opportunity. I’m torn.

Like many liberals, I think America is generally better off when Congress has more oversight over foreign policy. It’s no coincidence that the greatest foreign policy disaster of the twentieth century, Vietnam, occurred near the height of what Arthur Schlesinger Jr. called “The Imperial Presidency.” And the greatest foreign policy disaster of the twenty-first century occurred when George W. Bush and Dick Cheney created another imperial presidency after 9/11. Seeking unaccountable presidential power is a bipartisan affliction, and so even progressives who sympathize with Barack Obama’s foreign policy should be worried by his efforts to deny Congress a voice over something as big as a nuclear deal with Iran.

WNU Editor: Someone should tell Peter Beinart that it was the anti-war Democrats are the ones who negotiated this Iranian nuclear deal .... and may have laid the groundwork for another war. As to America's continuing participation (directly or indirectly) in the wars of Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, now Yemen, Libya, Mali, Somalia, the tribal regions of Pakistan, and about 15 other smaller conflicts .... the question needs to be answered .... where are the anti-war demonstrators?

Thousands March In Moscow Against Russia's Support For Separatists In Ukraine

Russia's Opposition Holds Peace March For Ukraine -- Voice of America

MOSCOW - Opposition activists and anti-war demonstrators marched in the Russian capital Sunday, urging peace in Ukraine and an end to Russia's military support for separatists, even though the Kremlin denies backing the rebels.

Organizers of the march said over 50,000 people took the streets in Moscow, but police claimed the number was exaggerated, putting it instead at 5,000.

It was for the second time this year that Russians demanded the Kremlin end what activists see as its military actions in Ukraine. But many of the marchers want more than just peace in Ukraine, they also want political change in Russia.

Peace march participant Daniel says he hates to see President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin elite engaging in what he calls "destructive political activities."

And I Was Just Wondering Why There Has Been No The Anti-War Protests

Code Pink Protesters Hold Faux-Bloody Hands Behind Kerry at House Syria Hearing -- Daily Beast

On Wednesday, Secretary of State John Kerry testified before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs over possible military action against Syria. As he testified, members of the antiwar group Code Pink held up their hands, which had been painted red to signify bloody hands. They also wore signs reading “US Out of Syria.”

Kerry’s history as an antiwar protester during the Vietnam War propelled him to political office originally. After supposedly throwing away his war medals – an account he went back and forth regarding during his 2004 presidential run – and slandering American troops as war criminals in Vietnam during the infamous Winter Soldier hearings, Kerry has now become the hawkish proponent of military action against the Assad regime.

My Comment: Their numbers are still very small.

Anti-Drone Protests To Escalate

Anti-Drones Activists Plan Month Of Protest Over Obama's 'Kill' Policy -- The Guardian

Organisers keen to build on renewed focus of president's targeted killing programme by holding series of protests in April

Military bases, universities and companies involved in Barack Obama's drones programme are to be targeted in a month-long series of protests by activists keen to build on the renewed public focus over the president's controversial policy.

Dubbed "April Days of Action" by participants, organisers are hoping to capitalise on a series of recent controversies that have thrust the use of drones – especially when it comes to targeted killings of suspected terrorists – into the heart of American political debate.

The protests will begin on April 3 with a rally in New York, followed by three days of protest outside the facilities of companies that make drones, including at San Diego-based General Atomics which makes Predator and Reaper drones.

Iraq, Afghanistan Vets To Hand Back Medals At NATO Summit -- USA Today

Thirty to 50 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars may have fought hard for or suffered for their medals, but this weekend, they plan to hand those medals back during the NATO summit in Chicago, MSNBC reports.

The group will stage the demonstration in protest of the war on terror, according to the itinerary for Sunday published on the blog Iraq Veterans Against the War.

It is never a good thing to see decorated and brave soldiers returning their medals. But we live in a democracy, and it is their right to do what they want to do.

Where Are the Anti-War Protestors

HOLLYWOOD - MARCH 21: Anti-war demonstrators carry model coffins in a protest march on Hollywood Boulevard to mark the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war ground invasion on March 21, 2009 in Hollywood, California.

Where Did All the Anti-War Protestors Go? -- John Stossel, FOX News

The anti-war movement was all over the news before President Obama was elected. But apparently they weren’t really anti-war ... they were just anti-President Bush. Two college professors just released a study of national protests between 2007 and 2009. What did they find?

… After January 2007, the attendance at antiwar rallies [measured in] roughly the tens of thousands, or thousands, through the end of 2008.

… After the election of Barack Obama as president, the order of magnitude of antiwar protests dropped [...] Organizers were hard pressed to stage a rally with participation in the thousands, or even in the hundreds. For example, we counted exactly 107 participants at a Chicago rally on October 7, 2009.

My Comment: John Stossel answers his own question in the first paragraph ....

..... But apparently they weren’t really anti-war ... they were just anti-President Bush. ....

Indeed.

My prediction .... if President Obama is defeated in 2012 and the wars are continuing in Afghanistan and elsewhere under a Republican President .... expect the anti-war protestors returning.

A Homecoming That Some (If Not All) Of These British Soldiers Did Not Expect

Clashes: Police hold back Muslim protesters as they trade insults with English Defence League members while soldiers take part in a homecoming parade in Barking, Essex

Muslim Protesters Brand War Heroes 'Murderers' As Homecoming Parade Turns Violent -- The Daily Mail

A group of extremist Muslims prompted violent clashes at a homecoming parade for British troops today after they heckled soldiers and called them 'murderers.'

Members of the Muslim Against the Crusade group clashed with far right protesters as they shouted 'murderers, murderers, murderers' and 'British troops go to hell' as members of the 1st Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment paraded down the streets of Barking, Essex.

My Comment: To come home and be witnessed to this .... not the homecoming that many of these British soldiers expected. But who are we to judge .... the U.S. has protesters at the funerals of soldiers who were KIA in Iraq or Afghanistan .... something that I would argue is more disgusting than a few Muslims hurling insults at marching British soldiers.
