The Independent: Global ‘fish wars’ could break out as climate change and rising nationalism fuel competition for world’s oceans

Conflicts like the infamous Cod Wars between the UK and Iceland could erupt across the globe unless countries co-operate to manage stocks effectively, expert warns

The twin threats of climate change and growing nationalism could lead to an outbreak of conflicts over fish stocks – like the infamous Cod Wars between the UK and Iceland – that could threaten the global supply of food and “decimate” marine ecosystems, experts have warned.

Speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s annual meeting in Boston on Thursday, a panel of experts said that with the right management and international co-operation the number of fish in the sea and the amount caught by fishing fleets could increase over the coming decades.

However, they warned rising temperatures were prompting many species to move to different parts of the sea, which could threaten some individual countries’ economies and access to food.

An Analysis On Financial Warfare And Its Growing Importance In Future Conflicts

James G. Richards, Darien Times: Conversation with a spy

Only one person has ever been director of both the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency. That person is retired Four-Star General Michael Hayden. Recently I had the chance to talk to Mike Hayden on Capitol Hill. We were both there as part of a conclave to discuss the status of Iran-U.S. negotiations on uranium enrichment. We had a chance to talk one-on-one about my specialty, which is financial warfare, and the potential impact on investors.

General Hayden’s career as a military and intelligence officer spans four decades beginning with his commission as an Air Force officer in 1969. From 1980 to 1982 he was intelligence chief at Osan Air Force Base in Korea. From 1996 to 1997, he commanded the Air Intelligence Agency, today part of the Twenty-Fifth Air Force, which is one of the 17 separate agencies that make up the U.S. Intelligence Community.

WNU Editor: Financial warfare .... and its growing importance in future conflicts .... is one of those stories that needs to be covered more extensively. This post is a good start to better appreciate why this type of warfare is going to be more extensively employed in the years to come.

Is Economic Warfare An Esential Part Of President Obama`s Overall War Strategy?

Is America Waging Economic War On Iran? -- John T. Bennett, US News and World Report

The shooting hasn't started but the United States, fueled by an expanding industry in Washington, already is attacking Iran. As another batch of stiff economic sanctions on Monday formally descend upon Iran, some see Washington and its allies creeping toward economic warfare with Iran.

Prussian military theorist Carl Philipp Gottfried von Clausewitz's complex definitions of war offer insights into the simmering Iran situation. One part states an aim to disarm one's enemy. Another aspect is the desire of one side to compel the other into submission. Yet another says war's "application knows no bounds."

: Is This The Obama War Doctrine?

My Comment: Economic warfare is nothing new .... but President Obama appears to be employing it on a subtle but different level .... i.e. targeting and chipping away at the structures that ensure economic prosperity which for a country like Iran will include sanctions on goods, followed by oil sanctions, and then followed by financial sanctions.
