* Gen. Mark Milley painted a terrifying picture of what future battlefields will look like in a new podcast interview.

* The top US general that technology is rapidly changing the ways that wars are fought.

* Soldiers will have to be almost invisible to survive on battlefields that are far more lethal, he warned.

The top US general has offered a terrifying and bleak picture of future battlefields, predicting that soldiers will have to be constantly mobile, dispersed, and almost completely hidden from the enemy in order to survive.

Technology is proving to be the driving force behind what is currently the "most fundamental" change — across all of recorded history — in the ways that wars are fought, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told Foreign Affairs in a podcast that aired on Tuesday.

WNU Editor: The Russia - Ukraine war has been a wake-up call on what future battlefields will be like. Technology has made it possible to know where your enemy is, and what they are doing. You cannot hide anymore, and if the algorithm sees you as a significant threat even if you are far away from the battlefield, expect a missile (or more) quickly coming your way.

Epoch Times: IN-DEPTH: ‘It Is Skynet’: Pentagon Envisions Robot Armies in a Decade

The Pentagon's quest for an AI-dominated battlefield is becoming a reality

WASHINGTON—Robotic killing machines prowl the land, the skies, and the seas. They are fully automated, seeking out and engaging with adversarial robots across every domain of war. Their human handlers are relegated to the rearguard, overseeing the action at a distance while conflicts are fought and won by machines.

Far from science fiction, this is the vision of Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley.

The United States, according to Milley, is in the throes of one of the myriad revolutions in military affairs that have spanned history.

BBC: What does future warfare look like? It's here already

The year 2021 has seen a fundamental shift in British defence and security policy. Up goes the budget for digital technology, artificial intelligence and cyber. Down goes the money for more traditional hardware and troop numbers.

All of this at a time when Russian forces are massing on Ukraine's borders, Moscow has been demanding Nato withdraw from some of its member states, and China is making ever louder noises about retaking Taiwan - by force if necessary.

Small, regional conflicts still erupt around the globe. Ethiopia has a civil war, Ukraine's separatist conflict has killed over 14,000 people since 2014, Syria's insurgency simmers on and Islamic State group is rampaging through parts of Africa.
