Washington Times: Bill Clinton White House suppressed evidence of Iran’s terrorism

Sent secret cable accusing Tehran of 1996 Khobar Towers attack, but kept it from public.

Bill Clinton’s administration gathered enough evidence to send a top-secret communique accusing Iran of facilitating the deadly 1996 Khobar Towers terrorist bombing, but suppressed that information from the American public and some elements of U.S. intelligence for fear it would lead to an outcry for reprisal, according to documents and interviews.

Before Mr. Clinton left office, the intelligence pointing toward Iran’s involvement in the terror attack in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 U.S. servicemen and wounded hundreds was deemed both extensive and “credible,” memos show.

IBTimes: Iran supporter of 'terrorist related activity', finds US State Department

Iran continued to support "terrorist-related activity", as well as providing broad military support to President Assad of Syria, said the US State Department in its annual report on global terrorism.

Palestinian terror groups, Lebanese Shia militia Hezbollah, as well as groups in Iraq continued to receive Iranian backing, according to the report.

It described Iran's elite Quds Force as the country's main means "for cultivating and supporting terrorists abroad".

Neither the election of President Hassan Rouhani, regarded as a moderate who has sought rapprochement with the West, not the prospect of a nuclear deal which would see economic sanctions eased, has affected Iran's involvement in conflict in the Middle East, the report suggests.

Kenya this week sentenced two Iranians convicted of plotting attacks against U.S. and Israeli targets while three Nigerian terrorist suspects allegedly trained in Iran are awaiting trial in the West African state on similar charges.

Increasingly, Africa seems to be emerging as a new front in the shadowy clandestine war between the Islamic Republic and its leading enemies.

A few weeks ago, British arms-trafficking investigators said they had found evidence that Tehran has been secretly shipping arms and ammunition to Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, the Ivory Coast and South Sudan -- all African states plagued by conflict.
