Only one of Japan's neighbors cannot communicate smoothly with their defense authorities: Taiwan.

On June 8, 2018, Japan and China launched a communication mechanism between their defense authorities to avert accidental clashes in the air and on the sea. This is a huge achievement for the two countries, but it still leaves a major outlier, which has direct security relevance for Japan. In fact, the only remaining neighbor who cannot communicate smoothly with other defense authorities is Japan’s neighbor to the southwest: Taiwan.

WNU Editor: Here is an easy prediction. Because of history and current international relations, Japan and Taiwan are not going to correct this lack of "military communication" between both countries. I think this is a mistake. Unfortunately .... no one is focused on it, and the country that is (and will) benefit the most is China and its long term approach of taking Taiwan.

BEIJING — Japan’s deputy foreign minister is in Beijing for consultations with China about a group of hotly contested islands in the East China Sea known as Diaoyu in China and Senkaku by the Japanese.

As the meetings took place and officials made an effort to ease tensions, the Japanese coast guard fired water cannons at a group of Taiwanese fishing boats, the latest confrontation on the islands.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei decribed the discussions between Vice Foreign Ministers Chikao Kawai and Zhang Zhijun as frank and in depth.
