FOX News: Pentagon asks for $114M to spend on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in 2024  

The Pentagon's DEIA funding request is the most expensive of its kind from the department in recent years 

The Department of Defense (DOD) is requesting approximately $114 million to finance its latest round of diversity initiatives. 

The DOD plans to use the funds for "diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility" (DEIA) programs in fiscal year 2024. "The FY 2024 President’s Budget request demonstrates the DoD’s commitment to DEIA and includes $114.7 million for dedicated diversity and inclusion activities," the department wrote in its Strategic Management Plan for fiscal year 2022 to 2026.

A controversial 600-plus page manual used by the military to train its Equal Opportunity officers teaches that "healthy, white, heterosexual, Christian" men hold an unfair advantage over other races, and warns in great detail about a so-called "White Male Club."

“Simply put, a healthy, white, heterosexual, Christian male receives many unearned advantages of social privilege, whereas a black, homosexual, atheist female in poor health receives many unearned disadvantages of social privilege,” reads a statement in the manual created by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI).

The manual, which was obtained by Fox News, also instructs troops to “support the leadership of people of color. Do this consistently, but not uncritically,” the manual states.

Jessica L. Wright, the acting under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, said today that the Defense Department must maintain its commitment to diversity and inclusion, which contribute to mission success.

She asserted that diversity helps civilian and military employees perform well because they “represent the nation in our workforce.”

The Defense Department not only talks “about diversity in terms of race and gender, and ethnicity, but it is much more than that in my mind,” Wright said. She declared that diversity included “your thought process, how you grew up, [and] what you can add to the greater good because of your background.”

The Pentagon is struggling to meet President Obama’s demands for more diversity in officer-ranks because a stunning 80 percent of minority teens who might consider military service are ineligible because of bad grades, criminal records, obesity and drug use, the head of the Military Leadership Diversity Commission revealed Tuesday.

White kids aren’t much better, with 70 percent unable to meet military standards, said retired Gen. Lester Lyles, head of the commission. “It’s the elephant in the room,” he told a Capitol Hill confab called that featured minority House members barking over the administration’s failure to make changes recommended by the commission to boost the number of minority officers, including generals and admirals.

My Comment: If these stats are accurate .... and I have no reason to believe that they are not .... it is very disturbing to realize that only 20%-30% of the population are suitable for military service. Throwing in racial quotas for officers will not change these enlistment figures, and in fact may make them worse for the simple reason that some competent officers will not be promoted because of a quota requirement .... a prospect that I am sure will then have a detrimental impact on morale and future re-enlistments..

A promise by the new commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps to roughly double the number of black officers is echoing loudly with black groups and troops.

For a service that was the last to open its doors to blacks and has never had a black commandant or four-star general, the vow from Gen. James Amos creates large expectations.

Amos said Tuesday his goal is to double the number of blacks among the Marine Corps' 22,155 officers from the current 1,326 to roughly 2,860.

That would raise the number of black officers to roughly 13 percent, a figure that reflects the percentage of the black population in the U.S.

My Comment: I am one who hates racial quotas, discrimination, racism, etc. etc. etc.. But in this case .... the numbers do not add up .... and I can understand why Gen. Amos is concerned about it and is determined to change it by promoting more black officers.

Should the U.S. military allow women to serve in ground combat -- largely in infantry and armor units -- to help their careers? A new report from the Military Leadership Diversity Commission says yes. It argues that the battle lines in Afghanistan and Iraq have been so blurry that women basically are in combat, but don't get the formal combat credit needed to advance in rank. That's because of a 1994 Pentagon ban -- the so-called "combat exclusion rule" -- that keeps females out of small units where most combat takes place. The rule should be junked, the commission says.

Report Says Too Many Whites, Men Leading Military -- Washington Post

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. military is too white and too male at the top and needs to change recruiting and promotion policies and lift its ban on women in combat, an independent report for Congress said Monday.

Seventy-seven percent of senior officers in the active-duty military are white, while only 8 percent are black, 5 percent are Hispanic and 16 percent are women, the report by an independent panel said, quoting data from September 2008.
