President Trump delivered remarks in a steady downpour on Sunday at an American war memorial and cemetery in France - without the cover of an umbrella - as he honored American vets and heroes.

Trump gave the speech on the centennial anniversary of the First World War, which he was in Paris to celebrate over the weekend, after coming under scrutiny for calling off a trip to a similar memorial while it was raining the day before.

'Exactly 100 years ago today, on Nov. 11 1918, World War One came to an end. Thank god,' he said. 'It was a brutal war.'

The U.S. president called it 'one of the bloodiest conflicts in human history' and a 'horrible, horrible war' in an 11-minute address with the Eiffel Tower behind him.

Donald Trump's rising feud with Emmanuel Macron took a new turn on Sunday as the French leader forcefully denounced nations 'looking after their own interests' and decried nationalist policies like the ones the American president has embraced.

Macron specifically referred to the 'selfishness of nations only looking after their own interests' in remarks at an Armistice Day event in Paris that Trump and other world leaders attended.

Armistice Day: UK Remembers -- BBC

The anniversary of the World War One armistice - signed 95 years ago - has been marked in the UK with a two-minute silence.

Ceremonies have taken place at military bases, town halls, churches, schools, and at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

The Royal British Legion held its own event in London' s Trafalgar Square.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Edinburgh has visited Belgium, scene of some of World War One's deadliest battles.

This year, Armistice Day, which honours members of the armed forces who have died in that war and in all conflicts since, comes a day after Remembrance Sunday.

Canada Remembers Its Fallen Soldiers

Canadian Vets Honoured At Ceremonies In Kandahar, Across Canada -- CTV

Just hours before thousands of Canadians gather in Ottawa and across the country, soldiers gathered for the solemn, final ceremony at Kandahar Airfield.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay was at the military base to honour Canada's fallen soldiers, reading aloud a list of 158 Canadians who were killed in Afghanistan.

Canada's military mission has ended in Afghanistan, and a crew of about 1,000 are packing up this country's equipment with the goal of finishing by the end of the year. About 900 Canadian troops will remain in Afghanistan in a training capacity.

Australia Pauses To remember War Dead -- ABC News (Australia)

The names of eight Australian soldiers who died in Afghanistan in the past year have been added to the Australian War Memorial's Roll of Honour, as thousands gathered in Canberra to honour the nation's service men and women.

The names were added today to coincide with Remembrance Day ceremonies that mark 93 years since the Armistice which ended World War I.

More than 102,000 Australians have been killed while serving overseas in the past century, and their names are listed on the honour roll.

Tributes to the war dead have begun around the world as people observe two minutes' silence to mark Armistice Day.

Offices and schools in Britain fell quiet and people stopped in the streets at 11 o'clock this morning to remember those who have died in global conflicts.

War memorials in the UK's villages, towns and cities became the focal point for remembrance at the '11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month' - the time the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies took effect in 1918 after four years of fighting.

Closing Road During Remembrance Services Infringes Drivers' 'Human Rights' -- The Telegraph

A request to close a busy road to mark a two minute silence during the forthcoming Remembrance services was refused by police as it would infringe motorists' “human rights”, the British Legion claimed.

For nearly 90 years, officers have helped the organisation hold the brief services in peace, by stopping traffic near the junction in Stockbridge, Hants.

But last year police refused for the first time and only backed down following intervention by the local Conservative MP, Caroline Nokes.

Despite officials being told the row would “never happen” again, Hampshire police last week refused the request, saying it breached the “human rights” of motorists.

Obama Marks Veterans Day With A Warning To North Korea -- Washington Post

SEOUL - President Obama marked Veterans Day on Thursday at a U.S. military base outside this capital, where he warned North Korea that the United States "will never waver in our commitment to the security of the Republic of Korea."

"The alliance between our two nations has never been stronger, and along with the rest of the world, we have made it clear that North Korea's continued pursuit of nuclear weapons will only lead to more isolation and less security," Obama said. He went on to praise U.S. forces for helping ensure South Korea's evolution from a war-ravaged country into an economic power.

Army cadets have been left ‘bitterly disappointed’ after being banned from carrying rifles on a Remembrance Day parade - amid fears the weapons might 'upset' onlookers.

The young cadets have proudly marched with rifles for decades and around 100 had spent months fine-tuning the drill where they would showcase their skills.

But the cadets were left 'gutted' just days before the big event when military top brass cut the rifles from the display following complaints from members of the public.

Families Remember Service Personnel Killed In Afghanistan -- The Telegraph

More than 500 relatives of members of the Armed Forces killed on duty in 2009 gathered at the National Memorial Arboretum for a dedication ceremony.

It was a procession of grief but also of pride. Hundreds of relatives laid floral tributes at a memorial wall yesterday to remember their loved ones who died while serving their country last year.

After a moving dedication service, attended by the Earl of Wessex, more than 500 family members walked solemnly past the names of 119 service personnel engraved onto a wall at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Web Brings 90 Years Of War Stories To Life

The ink on cherished family photos and letters from loved ones who fought in the Great War has faded in the 90 years since the Armistice. But modern technology has made "leaps and bounds" in an effort to preserve rare artifacts and changing the way we access our collective history.

Traditionally, all military records have been stored in vast and dingy warehouses by Libraries and Archives Canada in Ottawa. Digging up the intimate details about veterans used to include a trip to the capital, an appointment with an archivist and not to mention countless hours of sifting through stacks of dusty old documents.

Since the late 1990s however, tens of thousands of official military files and first-hand accounts of war have been restored, digitized and permanently archived to the web.

Now, the personal journeys of soldiers can easily be explored with the click of a mouse from a family living room or local library.

Preservation technology has taken "leaps and bounds" thanks to digital media, said Gordon Jung, a web specialist for Libraries and Archives Canada.
