Britain will be on ''the road to ruin'' without painful spending cuts and tax rises in the Budget, Chancellor George Osborne has warned.

Mr Osborne will unveil on Tuesday what is expected to be the harshest set of economic measures seen in decades in a bid to tackle the UK's record deficit.

Labour said the Government's determination to go ''further and faster'' with austerity measures was ''profoundly misguided'' and would ''crush'' the fragile recovery.

My Comment: There are no specifics on what is going to be cut .... but the UK military must be on top of the list. I expect Tuesday to be a bad day for many in the Ministry of Defense.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced Sunday that his government will support IRA victims in seeking compensation from Libya, in a move conservatives called a "U-turn" from his earlier position.

"I desperately care about what has happened to those people who have been victims of IRA terrorism," Brown said at a Sunday news conference in Germany.
