WNU Editor: There is a clear disagreement between the two sides on Nord Stream 2. On the one hand you have President Biden saying that the U.S. will shut down Nord Stream 2 (and he said this twice), and on the other hand you have the German Chancellor not repeating the same commitment. Just saying that we will act in unity?!?!?!?

If I was in the Kremlin watching this, I will be smiling.

Update: I cannot help but feel that there was no preparation for this meeting/summit. 

German Chancellor Scholz offered nothing (which is what usually happens in these summits), and when the news conference ended I could not help but wonder on why did this meeting happen in the first place.

AFP: Merkel warns against trade war as Trump takes aim at cars

Berlin (AFP) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday warned US President Donald Trump against unleashing an all-out trade war after he threatened to impose steep tariffs on cars from the European Union.

In a speech to lawmakers at the Bundestag, Merkel said both sides were effectively locked in a "trade conflict" since Trump's decision to slap punitive tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

"It is worthwhile to prevent this conflict from becoming a real war," she said, adding however that this "would require both sides" to take steps.

Trump on Sunday charged that Europe is "possibly as bad as China" on trade, as he reiterated that he is mulling import taxes of 20 percent on EU cars.
