Here’s another really cool video filmed from aboard F/A-18E Super Hornets with the U.S. Navy’s Strike-Fighter Squadron 27 (VFA-27) “Royal Maces”.

Based at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, in Japan, VFA-27 is part of Carrier Air Wing 5 and is attached to the USS George Washington (CVN-73).

The video is just a teaser to this year’s full-length cruise video dubbed “That’s a Shack!” but it contains much interesting stuff, including the AGM-154 JSOW delivery as seen from the ATFLIR pod, low level flying in the canyons, dogfights and flight deck operations.

The Marines are deep in southern Afghanistan when they peer out of a doorway. One of them asks if there is cover from gunfire outside. Seconds later, there is the crack of a single gunshot, and a sniper rifle round deflects off the top of one of their helmets.

“Oh, s—!” the hit Marine says, as he and his fellow Marines scramble back inside the compound.

The gritty video has gone viral this week, and appears to have been recorded on a camera mounted to one of the Marine’s helmets. It depicts a hair-raising sequence of events — and one American who got incredibly lucky.

Sixty-three-ton tanks don’t usually demonstrate their braking prowess on a group of volunteers dressed in black tie, which is why footage of such a stunt has produced one of the most heart-stopping viral videos in recent history.

The clip in question depicts a $5 million Leopard II tank accelerating to its full speed of 70 km/h just prior to stopping mere feet away from a group of test subjects who have their backs to the beastly machine. Since surfacing on a Dutch website last week the footage has gathered millions of views on various video-sharing sites.

The soldiers and the hardware belong to the the 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which "was the first combat paratrooper unit of the United States Army formed during World War II." They're being dropped from a C-17 Globemaster III operated by the United States Air Force's 517th Airlift Squadron.
