Al Jazeera: Uncertainty remains as Iraq parliament accepts PM's resignation

Parliament approves resignation of Abdul Mahdi's government after two months of protests that left more than 400 dead.

Baghdad, Iraq - Iraqi legislators approved Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi's resignation on Sunday during a parliament session held in the capital Baghdad amid weeks of deadly anti-government protests.

An embattled Abdul Mahdi had announced on Friday that he would quit, after 50 demonstrators were killed the previous day by security forces in Baghdad and Iraq's mainly Shia southern cities of Nasiriya and Najaf.

Malta's Prime Minister Announces That He Step Down Next Month



France 24: Malta PM Muscat says he will resign amid crisis over murdered journalist

Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, engulfed in crisis over the probe into a murdered journalist, announced on Sunday he planned to step down, saying he would ask his ruling Labour Party to start choosing a new leader for the country next month.

Calls for Muscat to quit had intensified after the investigation into the 2017 car bomb killing of anti-corruption journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia led to charges on Saturday against a prominent businessman with alleged ties to government ministers and senior officials.

In a televised address on Sunday evening, Muscat said he was not leaving immediately, rather announcing a process to replace him that will start on Jan. 12.

India Does Its First Night Time Test Firing Of Its Nuclear Capable Intermediate- Range Missile Agni-III

NDTV: First Night Trial Of Agni-III Missile Held At Abdul Kalam Island

The flight test of the intermediate-range missile, which has a strike range of over 3,500 km, was part of a user trial by the Army, the sources said.

Balasore (Odisha):The first night trial of the nuclear-capable Agni-III surface-to-surface ballistic missile was carried out from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range at the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast on Saturday, Defence sources said.

The trajectory of the missile is being monitored and the outcome of the trial is awaited, the sources said.

The flight test of the intermediate-range missile, which has a strike range of over 3,500 km, was part of a user trial by the Army, the sources said.

The missile, which has a length of 17 m, the diameter of 2m and launches weight of around 50 tonnes, has been already inducted into the armed forces, the Defence sources said.

New “supercavitating” bullets could allow SEALs, others to shoot targets underwater.

* Traditional bullets quickly slow to a stop underwater, making the almost completely ineffective..
* A method known as “supercavitation” can allow objects to travel through water at much higher speeds.
* These bullets would work with existing weapons and could make special forces even more lethal.

A new line of specialized bullets could allow U.S. special forces personnel to shoot their weapons submerged, engaging other divers and their underwater vehicles. While traditional bullets are ineffective underwater, the new bullets work by forming a bubble of air around a bullet, allowing the bullet to travel with fewer physical restrictions.

Ordinary bullets are designed to travel through the air at speeds greater than half a mile per second. Traveling through a different medium, well, that’s a different story. Bullets rapidly slow to a stop once they enter another medium—that’s a feature, not a flaw.

BBC: North Korea threatens Japan with 'real ballistic missile'

North Korea has branded Japan's PM Shinzo Abe an "imbecile" and "political dwarf", accusing him of mislabelling its latest weapons test.

Mr Abe condemned the North for "repeated launches of ballistic missiles" after two projectiles were fired on Thursday.

But the North insisted it was testing a "super-large multiple-rocket launcher".

On Saturday, state media said Japan "may see what a real ballistic missile is in the not distant future".

North Korea is banned from firing ballistic missiles under UN Security Council resolutions.
