President Trump's Covid-19 Diagnosis Is A Major National Security Crisis

There are massive and highly unique strategic implications of this situation, the likes of which America hasn't experienced before.

The Commander In Chief has tested positive for SARS-COV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19. No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, this is a bad moment for the country, especially in terms of the potential national security implications of this situation, one that is largely unheard of. While Presidents have been incapacitated in the past, the highly infectious and wily nature of this disease means that incapacitation is further complicated by isolation and the possibility that the same deadly virus spreads throughout the highest rungs of power in Washington. It is in this uncharted territory that America's increasingly belligerent adversaries could decide to act, taking advantage of weaknesses in the U.S. military and foreign policy decision-making chain of command.

WNU Editor: If the President is infected and there is a national security emergency/crisis .... transporting him to any secured location will result in that location being compromised within a certain period of time. And if the President's illness worsens and he becomes incapacitated, America's adversaries will definitely look for opportunities during that period time. We will know what the impact on the President's medical/health conditions from this diagnosis in the coming days. But I find it disturbing to hear that he is already exhibiting symptoms of the disease. If true, that is not a good sign.

What Has Russia Gained After Five Years Of Fighting In Syria?

Moscow managed to preserve the Syrian regime but it has failed to achieve all its goals in Syria.

On September 30, 2015, the Russian Federation formally entered the Syrian civil war as President Bashar al-Assad’s rule was increasingly under threat.

Since 2011, intense fighting and mass desertion had weakened the Syrian Arab Army. Even the support of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the deployment of Iranian militias and Russian mercenaries, and regular shipments of Russian weaponry had not been enough to stop the advance of the opposition and radical armed groups.

In March 2015, the Syrian government lost a second provincial capital, Idlib, when Jeish al-Fattah, a loose coalition of various armed groups, led a successful offensive on the city in the country’s northwest.

The provincial capital of Raqqa, with its strategic oil and water resources, had been captured the previous year and had become the main stronghold of the rising Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

US Army Wants Its Soldiers To Practice Strategic Napping

DNYZ: The Army Rolls Out a New Weapon: Strategic Napping

Turns out Beetle Bailey had it right all along.

The loafing comic-strip Army private has been sleeping on duty for 70 years, to the frequent fury of his platoon sergeant. But on Wednesday, the Army released new guidelines for optimal soldier performance — and they include strategic and aggressive napping.

The recommendation is part of an overhaul of the Army’s physical fitness training field manual, which was rebranded this week as the FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness manual. No longer is the guide focused entirely on grueling physical challenges like long ruck marches and pull-ups. Now it has chapters on setting goals, visualizing success, “spiritual readiness” and, yes, the art of the nap.

“Soldiers can use short, infrequent naps to restore wakefulness and promote performance,” the new manual advises. “When routinely available sleep time is difficult to predict, soldiers might take the longest nap possible as frequently as time is available.”

WNU Editor: I have been practicing strategic and power napping all my adult life. Whenever I am a passenger in a car, bus, train, or plane .... I am napping. And it does make a big difference. Kudos to the US Army to push this. I am also lucky in that I can fall asleep right away. Something that really annoys my GF.
