Pelosi scheduled a press appearance for 5 pm, directly after her caucus meets on impeachment amid an outcry from rank-and-file members as well as senior Democrats, as she prepared to announce a formal impeachment inquiry.

(1) Speaker Pelosi has lost control of her caucus, being forced to make this announcement to satisfy the overwhelming desire of her caucus to proceed with impeachment. (2) If the Democrats were confident of defeating President Trump in 2020, they would not be launching this impeachment inquiry. (3) Democrats are not concerned that American public opinion is overwhelmingly against impeachment .... Impeaching Trump On Russia Was Unpopular. Will Ukraine Be Different? (FiveThirtyEight). (4) This will be dominating the news headlines from now till election day. And here is my prediction. The Democrat majority in Congress will vote in favor of impeachment but it will be defeated in the Senate. It would be defeated in the senate, but I doubt that it will even go to a floor vote in the house. That would require vulnerable dems from red states to vote against their own interests. Result will be lost seats or a lost vote on the floor which will show the split in the dem party...and lead to their loss in 20. They are screwed, providing Trump is clean. He probably is or they would have found a weakness and exploited it already.
