BADAL: A Culture Of Revenge, The Impact Of Collateral Damage On Taliban Insurgency

The Mountains Of Afghanistan

BADAL: A Culture of Revenge, The Impact of Collateral Damage on Taliban Insurgency, by Raja Hussain, Naval Postgraduate School, March 2008, is a must read report for all policy planners, politicians, and soldiers who are going to Afghanistan.

The report accurately summarizes the history of war in Afghanistan, the culture and impact of war on th epeople of Afghanistan, the socio/cultural society of Afghanistan, and the troubles that coalition forces are now having in Afghanistan. Reading the report confirmed many of the thoughts that I have had on what is happening there, as well as adding many more.

It also made me understand why it is almost impossible to find Bin Laden in such an environment. He is not the first person to hide in the mountains of Afghanistan/Pakistan, history is filled with individuals who have been successful in hiding in these mountains for years.

Again, take an hour and read the report, it is time well spent.
