From The Australian:
MILITANT tribesmen in Pakistan's troubled frontier region last night claimed they had successfully shot down an unmanned US spy plane, but Pakistan's military suggested the plane's crash may have been due to a malfunction.
The Predator drone was one of four that had spent several hours in the skies above Angoor Adda, the town attacked by US forces in their first-ever ground raid inside Pakistani territory last week. Fifteen people were killed in the US assault, and Pakistan lodged a protest over the incursion.
There have also been several recent missile strikes by US drones in the region.
Pakistani officials confirmed the wrecked aircraft had been recovered by the Pakistan army. A spokesman said the downing would be investigated.
Local tribesmen said the drone "fell out of the sky" when they and local security forces fired on it.
US military officials last night denied the incident, insisting they had "no reports of any loss". But the drones are mostly operated by the CIA, independently of the US forces.
