US To Free 3,000 Iraq Detainees During Ramadan

The US military said on Friday it plans to free 3,000 detainees held in Iraq during the month of Ramadan, taking the number of those released so far this year to more than 15,000.

The military said that since January 1, it has released 12,000 detainees.

"During the month of Ramadan coalition forces plan to release at least 3,000 detainees, taking the year to date number of releases to over 15,000 by October 1, 2008," the military said.

It said that over the past four weeks the military has detained an average of 24 new prisoners each day, while releasing an average of 67.

My Comment: Coalition and Iraqi forces must feel very confident that these men will not return to the insurgency. I guess only time will tell.
