Pentagon told to map out radical cuts as president prepares to chair UN talks.

Barack Obama has demanded the Pentagon conduct a radical review of US nuclear weapons doctrine to prepare the way for deep cuts in the country's arsenal, the Guardian can reveal.

Obama has rejected the Pentagon's first draft of the "nuclear posture review" as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.

My Comment: This is an important story, but when I scanned (early this morning) the U.S. new websites for this story .... with the exception of the Drudge Report I found nothing. The only ones who are reporting this story are the Europeans and Chinese.

I am sure that there will be more coverage of this story today (if not already), but it seems strange that the British Press got this story before the Americans. This is not the first time that this is happen .... I have found that many breaking stories on missile defense, nuclear weapons, Afghanistan .... the British press are scooping their American competitors .... especially on weekends.
