The Perils Of Sending Military Aid To Pakistan

Billions sent to Pakistan for military; only millions get to army.

The United States has long suspected that much of the billions of dollars it has sent Pakistan to battle militants has been diverted to the domestic economy and other causes, such as fighting India.

Now the scope and longevity of the misuse is becoming clear: From 2002 to 2008 - the period when al Qaeda built itself into the formidable group it is today - only $500 million of the $6.6 billion in American aid actually made it to the Pakistani military, two army generals tell the Associated Press.

My Comment: Long time readers of this blog know that I have been huffing and puffing for years on the misuse of U.S. aid in Pakistan. Kudos to the AP and the Washington Times for shining the light on a story that has been going on for years, and it looks like it will probably continue for a few more years.

2nd Comment: The stupidity of the U.S. Congress is best revealed by the following headline from the AFP .... Senator Kerry hopes aid to ease Pakistan hostility. You can never get the respect from anyone by bribing them .... but I guess Sen. Kerry is operating from a different playbook.
