Karzai Aide Says Runoff Vote Appears Likely -- New York Times

WASHINGTON — A runoff election between President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan and his main opponent, Abdullah Abdullah, appears likely, the Karzai government’s ambassador to Washington said Thursday.

The comments by the ambassador, Said Tayeb Jawad, are the first time that Mr. Karzai’s government has publicly acknowledged the probability of a runoff.
