Army's Future Weapon

It's about time it gets operational, that is, will it? XM-25 25mm came from the OICW/Sabre project which backfired due to weight and costs, and that was started a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away when time and budget was available in abundance.

Ammo handling will still be an issue, complexity may be another one. Timed (cheaper?) airbursting grenades are already available for standard 40mm underslungs (Metalstorm).

Not to mention the South Korean "OICW" which is simpler - and perhaps more reliable - plus it is integrated with a 5.56 carbine, something the XM-25 lacks.

Overall a good idea, a bit late though, so I hope it gets to the troops in time before units start to rotate back.

Cheers.
