Iran Redraws Energy Map To Defy U.S.

TEHRAN, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- As Iran faces a growing Western threat of economic sanctions over its controversial nuclear program, Tehran has been quietly building up its defenses and looking eastward.
On Jan. 6 it opened a natural gas pipeline linking Iran's northern Caspian region with Turkmenistan's vast fields in Central Asia that will help it defy the West.
At first sight, the 115-mile pipeline is a modest enough undertaking. Initially it will carry 8 billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan to Iran.

My Comment: Iran knows everyone's weakness .... and that weakness is the need for energy. By positioning themselves to be a critical player in Europe's and Asia's energy needs, they are confident that this will insulate them from any sanctions or military action .... and (in my opinion) they are probably right.
