USAF Fails Procurement Sense (Again) -- Defens(c)e Blog

Let us look at the F-35/USAF/FY2011 budget proposal. It is tragic.

First, the USAF in its wisdom requests that Congress replace a battle loss (F-16) with an airframe that costs $204.9M. That’s right. The USAF FY2011 budget has one specific line item to replace what can be built for $50-60M (F-16s) when the USAF buys them in quantity for an undeveloped, under-tested, unproven something costing up to 4 times more. No wonder the USAF is on death watch with its geriatric fighter fleet. The service failed business class. Big time.
