Here's a picture with a starboard quarter view of ROKS Cheonan previous to her sinking. Note the starboard-facing twin Harpoon missile launcher, the starboard triple tube torpedo launcher, and the proximity of the funnel to the rear superstructure. In the imagery of the raised stern of the Cheonan those features of the ship are wholly missing. They were apparently blown off the corvette by the explosive blast which halved the vessel. Several images seem to show that the port side of Cheonan was bent upwards more violently that the starboard side. And the center-line portion of the stern at its point of breakage seems to be bowed upwards in a violently compressed fashion.

Scroll down to posting # 370 on page 25 of this MP.net thread for the starboard quarter aspect view of the ship prior to its sinking.

One or two pages further back in that thread there are six pictures of the raised Cheonan stern. The intact and seemingly undamaged nature of the depth charges, the 76 mm gun mount, the 40 mm Dardo gun mount (both fitted only with fiberglass weather-proof gun houses), the port-oriented twin Harpoon missile launcher, and the port triple tube torpedo launcher point to the external nature of whatever damaged the Cheonan and which was seemingly concentrated in the vicinity of her engine rooms.

On that same page 25 of that thread there is an appararently unsupported claim that the corvette was sunk by a Chinese-made Yu-2 torpedo. That type of torpedo appears to be a mostly air-dropped weapon with a short, 1 kilometer underwater range. A quick search found at least one Korean language report mentioning the Yu-2 torpedo. Unfortunately, I couldn't read 99% of that report (there are some English terms used). It's probably nothing, unless the distinctive rear guidance fin structures of such a torpedo have been found at the site of Cheonan's sinking.
