Croatia Poised For EU Membership Following Slovenian Border Dispute Referendum -- The Telegraph

Croatia has cleared its last major obstacle to European Union membership after Slovenia voted in a referendum for a negotiated settlement to a bitter border dispute between the two neighbours.

Early results from Sunday's vote on a controversial maritime border treaty between Slovenia and Croatia showed a narrow Yes vote, of 51.6 per cent, after a closely fought campaign threatened to sink the deal.

Croatia is now expected to complete membership talks with Brussels over the next 12 months putting the Balkan country on track to become the EU's 28th member by 2012.
