It was an historical and moving moment in the life of the Royal Navy ship known affectionately as the Mighty Ark.

Proudly towering over the flotilla of tugs and patrol boats, HMS Ark Royal sailed into the sunset for the last time after 25 years of valiant service.

Gone were the combat-ready Harrier Jump Jets. Gone was the ammunition. The magnificent aircraft carrier that served in Bosnia and the 2003 Iraq invasion is being decommissioned.
