Hamas Admits 600-700 Of Its Men Were Killed In Cast Lead -- Haaretz

The military group had previously claimed only 49 militants died during Gaza war, though Israel put the figure at 709.

Hamas admitted last week that between 600 and 700 of its militants were killed during Operation Cast Lead – a figure consistent with that reported by the Israel Defense Forces.

The figure is several times higher than the previous number of fatalities that Hamas claimed it sustained during the operation.

My Comment: I also never believed in the claim that only 49 militants were killed. The fact is that Hamas threw their best at the Israeli forces when they started to enter the urban centers of Gaza .... and the fighting was very bloody. As to why Hamas lied about their casualty numbers .... I guess they tried to play the "victim card" by pointing out their civilian casualties. But what they should have done is point out how bravely their soldiers fought even when they were outnumbered and facing vastly superior Israeli firepower .... hmmm .... I guess their focus was elsewhere during that war.

On a side note, it appears that the Hamas - Hezbollah coalition and alliance is not as secure that some in the Arab world would like to believe.
