Tens Of Thousands Stage Rival Rallies In Yemen -- L.A. Times

The president's supporters march with logistical support from the army. The opposition demonstrates across town.

Reporting from Sana, Yemen, and Beirut — Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his supporters sought to upstage a "day of rage" against his rule Thursday by holding a large simultaneous counterdemonstration across town.

The two rallies drew tens of thousands and unfolded largely peacefully, but highlighted the political unrest sparked by the overthrow of longtime Tunisian ruler Zine el Abidine ben Ali last month and the ongoing popular uprising against the 30-year reign of President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt.
