Wave Of Violence Sweeps South Sudan Ahead Of Its Independence In July


Violence In South Sudan Leaves 165 Dead And Threatens To Destabilise Embyronic State -- Daily Mail

Fierce fighting between the south Sudanese army and rebel militias has left 165 people dead, as a wave of violence sweeps the territory ahead of its independence in July.

Forces loyal to two renegade army commanders fought the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in Jonglei and Unity states, killing soldiers, rebels, northern tribesman and civilians, army spokesman Malaak Ayuen said.

This year the SPLA has already been at warhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif with at least seven rebel militia, while the region is wracked by tribal conflicts and faces routine raids in its west from Uganda's Lord's Resistance Army rebels, according to the United Nations.

My Comment: Tribal divisions, Northern Sudan interference, weak leadership .... this is all adding up to an environment of instability and civil war.
