Syrian Government Launches New Attack On Hama -- Wall Street Journal

DUBAI—Syria's government launched a fresh bombing campaign on the city of Hama on Wednesday, moving tanks into the city's central square and cutting off telecommunications links at dawn, as President Bashar al-Assad appeared determined to resist mounting international pressure to end his crackdown.

Plumes of black smoke rose over several parts of the city as residents in a town four kilometers away reported awaking to sounds of explosions in Hama, the site of a 1982 crackdown on an Islamist insurgency that remains Syria's bloodiest campaign against dissent.
