NATO Is Now Leaving Iraq



Nato Training Mission In Iraq On Verge Of Collapse -- The Telegraph

Nato's training mission in Iraq was on the point of collapse on Sunday after the alliance failed to win assurances from Baghdad that its forces would be immune from prosecution.

Iraqi officials said they had been informed that Nato would withdraw its troops by the end of the month after failing to reach an agreement on the issue. A Nato official, however, said no decision had formally been made.

Unlike in Afghanistan, Nato has played no combat role in Iraq but has maintained a small force of 160 military advisers, most of them Italians, who were meant to remain in the country until 2013 to train portions of the Iraqi police and armed forces.

My Comment: So .... who is going to now train an Iraqi army that needs more training and mentoring? Hmmmm .... it looks like no one (for now).
