* Doctors don't expect him to survive until the presidential elections in October

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has been told by doctors that he has less than a year to live.

The 56-year-old who is running for a third six-year term this year, declared himself cancer-free since undergoing surgery in Cuba to remove a tumour and said no 'malignant cells' had been found.

However medical sources close to the controversial leader have countered his claims and insist that his prognosis couldn't be worse, adding that he will be lucky to survive until the presidential elections in October.

My Comment: For someone who is very sick .... he certainly has a lot of energy.
