Is America In An Endless Dirty War?

Hypnotized Into An Endless Dirty War -- Gary Kamiya, Salon

America has decided it has the right to kill whoever it wants, whenever it wants.

If in the year 2000 the U.S. president had told the American people that the government would soon begin using robot planes to track people, including U.S. citizens, all over the world, and would reserve to itself the right to kill them without trial, it is safe to say there would have been an enormous uproar. But that is exactly what is happening today, and nobody cares. The majority of Americans, including those who were opposed to the war in Iraq, have no problems with their government killing at will, so long as the killing is done in the name of “national security.”

My Comment: After 9/11 many pundits and commentators were consistently making the point this was a long term conflict .... one that may not be resolved in our lifetime. I agreed with this point of view, and I have not been surprised by how it has evolved. My nationality is Russian, and we know from our own history that the former Soviet Union waged a war against Muslim groups in the Caucasus and Central Asia that lasted for decades until it was vanquished. But as we now know this victory was short-sighted .... and this age old conflict has restarted in some parts of Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Bottom line .... yes this is a war .... and yes it is going to last a very ling time .... and yes ... we will have to (unfortunately) get use to it.
