Congressman: Pentagon Shouldn’t Pay To Keep Industrial Base
In what could spell bad news for some parts of the defense industry, the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee said March 1 that he doesn’t support spending money just to preserve the industrial base.
Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, one of the leading voices for Democrats on national security issues, said he sees the debate over the 2013 defense strategy as one about the tradeoffs needed to live within budget constraints. While he doesn’t oppose stretching out the purchase of weapons systems by cutting the amount of money spent each year, he doesn’t want to spend money just to preserve the capability to possibly build something in the future.

My Comment: If you are a defense contractor, this is not what you want to hear from a ranking member on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.
