In the course of Congressional testimony this week supporting the Obama administration's $525 billion defense spending request for FY 2013, the Pentagon leadership was dire about the consequences of any further cuts to defense. In particular, Secretary Panetta and General Dempsey are seeking to prevent the law going into effect that would require an additional $500 billion to be cut across the coming decade.

My Comment: As I have said in this blog many times .... trillion dollar deficits are not sustainable, and that there will be a day of reckoning if government does not stop its addiction to spending .... defense spending included. And while some are advocating taxes, I have lived long enough to know that when you keep on giving drugs to an addict (tax monies to a politician), they cannot help themselves but to continue to use it instead of positioning themselves to wean themselves away from it.
