Is It Hard to Kill a Drone? -- Slate

Pakistan threatens to shoot them down, but never does.

A CIA drone strike in North Waziristan killed al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader on Monday. Pakistan again complained that drone strikes are “unlawful, against international law and a violation of [its] sovereignty,” but while the country has threatened to shoot down unmanned vehicles in the past, it has never followed through. How hard is it to kill a drone?

My Comment: Most drones are not fast, and they do not fly at high altitudes .... so shooting them down should be easy. But in a place like Pakistan .... the issue has become both political and military. The majority of Pakistanis are against US drones .... but from a national security point of view .... U.S. drones have become indispensable tools in the war against the Taliban and Islamic militants .... many of whom have declared war against the Pakistan government itself .... a fact that Pakistan cannot ignore.
