A temporary city in the desert has been erected to safeguard thousands of refugees desperate to escape the horrors of life in Syria.

But once they arrive in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan it is not the end of the road - aid workers and refugees still face extraordinary challenges and struggles.

Now the UN Refugee Agency's first ever behind the scenes documentary brings into sharp focus life in the Middle East's biggest refugee camp.


The relief and the exhaustion were palpable.

Dust from the desert through which they’d travelled to seek sanctuary still clung to their clothes.

And they were the lucky ones – the ones who had just arrived in Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan.

Eight miles south of the Syrian border, the camp is distant enough to be safe but close enough to still hear the sounds of shelling between Bashar al-Assad’s government forces and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

It is a constant reminder of the reason they left and what awaits them if they return, reports Yahoo UK.

My Comment: This winter is probably going to be pure hell for most Syrians .... staying in a refugee camp away from the war will certainly be preferable than staying in Syria itself but under a constant threat of violence.
