'You'll find this surprising'

Arizona Sen. John McCain, once one of the most ardent defenders of American involvement in Iraq, said Thursday that had he been President in 2003 the U.S. might never have invaded.

“You’ll find this surprising,” McCain said at an event hosted by CNN and National Journal Thursday in Washington, “but I think I would have been more reluctant to commit American troops.”

The 2008 Republican presidential nominee and one of the chief proponents of the Iraq surge argued that his background in the military and his experience in Washington would have led him to see through “flimsy” evidence, had he defeated former President George W. Bush in the 2000 Republican primaries.

My Comment: I am never impressed with politicians reflecting on the past and saying that they would have done a better job. In the case of US Sen. McCain .... someone should remind him that he voted for the Iraq War resolution in 2003 .... not against it.

Well, he only said he would've been more reluctant. Would've still sent them, just "reluctantly".

I did not like McCain as one of the gang of 14. He did nit dishonor the country as a POW. But he got into Annapolis because, who his father and grandfather were. He was not a good pilot either.

I have a problem with someone who has been in Congress for 28 years or so and is running for president does not understand economics. (This doesn't mean I respect Obama more than McCain).
