Why Is Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi Languishing In A Mexican Jail?

Jailed US Marine: A Wrong Turn In Mexico, A Furor Back Home -- La Franchi, CSM

Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi says he crossed into Mexico with firearms illegal in that country by mistake. Mexican authorities aren't convinced. Critics blame US authorities for doing too little to secure his release.

WASHINGTON — The Marine sergeant and Afghanistan war veteran jailed in Mexico since April 1 on charges he entered Mexico with illegal firearms will remain behind bars south of the border at least until August, following a court hearing in Tijuana Wednesday.

In the meantime, the case of Andrew Tahmooressi – who claims he made a wrong turn and accidentally arrived at a border crossing into Mexico near San Ysidro, Calif., with three loaded weapons and more than 400 rounds of ammunition – will remain a thorn in the side of US-Mexico relations and a cause célèbre on social media, with veterans groups, and particularly among US conservatives.

In 1980s in Jamaica many gang member left for the U.S. One reason I heard was that is was not only for the money, but due to fear. The gang members feared police. The police could intimidate the gangs more than the other way around.

Tahmooressi brought guns into Mexico. That is his cardinal sin. Also, although innocent of any malevolence, Tahmooressi gives Mexican politicians a pretext to castigate the U.S., which they are wont to do anyway.

The cartels and coyotes also have guns and bring guns into Mexico, but that is under the radar (unless caught), it is an embarrassment and the cartels can sometimes wag the dog. The cartels and coyotes also bring in guns, but they bring in people. Those are people that the NGOs, the Democrats Party the Mexican government and others use for their political purposes. So unless there is a big arms trafficking bust where they round up many cartel members, the cartel goes on a rampage and kills a bunch of people, that part is out f the news. What is in the news is somethings that the Mexican government can claim the moral high ground, advance their agenda (Aztlan) and divert attention away form the Mexican economy.

The Mexican government is scared of the cartels, but not Tahmooressi or the U.S. government.

You know what Machiavelli would say.

Tahmooressi needs to be an issue in this years lections.

If he becomes an issue and one that hurts Democrat politicians, Obmama will find some way to make the Mexican government listen.

Tahmooressi may be released by the Mexican government, but they are going to try to slow walk it to milk it for all it is worth.

Tahmooressi broke Mexican law. But it was due to an error in navigating roads. There was no intent.

A person could have a heart attack while driving and there is some bureaucrat that would charge him with improper lane change and a multitude of other crimes when their car crashed.

As I said .... he did break Mexican law, but when you consider what is happening right now on the border .... his imprisonment is a joke.
