The Growing Humanitarian Crisis In Eastern Ukraine

Voice of America: In eastern Ukraine, the elderly are left especially vulnerable by the conflict between government forces and Russian-backed separatists. The UN estimates that more than half of those displaced by the fighting are seniors, who often suffer from ill health, anxiety and a lack of basic services. The United Nations Refugee Agency expressed concern Tuesday over the "worsening humanitarian situation" experienced by civilians in war-torn eastern Ukraine, especially those who reside in territory controlled by pro-Russian separatist rebels. WNU Editor: The above video is heartbreaking because it is being repeated throughout eastern Ukraine. It also provides an insight on why so many in eastern Ukraine are now bitter at Kiev .... a bitterness that I predict will easily last for the next few generations. The depressing part of this humanitarian crisis is that no one in eastern Ukraine has been untouched .... everyone knows someone (through family or friends) who has been directly impacted by this war .... and everyone is suffering individually and collectively. This is why I am very pessimistic on the future .... how can you can reconcile and compromise two different sides when they no longer have any interest to reconcile and compromise? Sighhh .... as I said .... I am not optimistic for the future.
