Col. Clint Hinote, Council on Foreign Relations: The Russian Weapon That Could Tip The Balance in the Middle East
Moscow’s recent decision to ship the very mobile and lethal S-300 missile system to Iran is a big deal for these three reasons.
It’s been widely reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to sell the Russian-made S-300 missile system to Iran. This sale has been planned for years, but it was put on hold in 2010 when the U.N. Security Council adopted Resolution 1929. Although this resolution did not specifically prohibit the sale of missile systems like the S-300, it did call for all states to “exercise vigilance and restraint” in supplying weapons to Iran. Since then, Russia has refrained from selling these weapons. Now Russia has changed its mind.
WNU Editor: From my point of view it is the trend that is worrisome .... primarily the proliferation and sale of advanced weaponry to countries that (maybe) should not receive them.

Americans have been practically giving away sophisticated weapons to very questionable parties for decades.
They were on the brink of giving weapons to so-called moderate rebels in Syria (and if I recall, those rebels did get their hands on some serious Ground-to-Air hardware) but regardless of all that hypocrisy; the S-300 is a different ball-game altogether and definitely a game changer.
