Washington Times: Marine fighter jets landing on Taiwan sends China message
The emergency landing of two U.S. Marine Corps F-18 fighter jets on the island of Taiwan appears to have been a political message from the Pentagon to Beijing following a recent Chinese bomber drill near the island nation that is a key rival to Beijing’s rule.
The Pentagon said the Marine F-18s landed at a southwestern air base that Taiwan’s Defense Ministry identified as the historic Tainan air force base. Maj. Paul L. Greenberg, a Marine Corps spokesman, said the aircraft were on a routine mission, flying in support of a training exercise.
WNU Editor: This is the first time in 30 years that U.S. fighters have landed in Taiwan .... so yes .... everyone in Asia is taking note of this.

Screw China,
We are suppose to lose a 20 or 30 million dollar plane & risk the life of some brown shoe, because the Chinese 1% are sensitive bullies?
Aizino,
"
The Marine jet landings appeared to be Pentagon sending a political message to China, since the aircraft could have made an emergency landing at a less-controversial location such as the Japanese airfield on Shimoji Island, 193 kilometers east of Taiwan, according to military analyst Rick Fisher."
Chinese Patrol Planes fly, Japan or the US Complain,
US or Japanese Joint Rivet Spy Planes fly, China complains.
It's the way the game works in the Tension Games,
When the fear, paranoia and nationalism has been ramped up to a Spinal Tap 11, and all the Military Budgest are full, fat and dripping to the point that they are buying "those" toilet seats, hammers and coffee makers again,........
Things will go all quiet again, the planes will still fly, but nobody with a fat happy MIC will complain.
1) You do know the toilet seat story was journalistic malpractice?
2) I realize that the plane might not have had actual mechanical problems, but the point still stands.
The ruse is a way to get the camel's nose under the tent.
I think Taiwan should be part of China. When their 2 political systems are compatible in terms of freedoms etc., it should or will naturally happen.
China dogmatically threatening or bullying other nations to accede to a take over is crap. THAT CRAP NEEDS TO BE STOOD UP TO.
Stuff like a union should be done by plebiscite and not by force or coercion.
3) Everyone I knew in the military from E-1 to O-10 was always talking about enlarging the military, starting wars, going to new land and marrying people.
Oh wait, that last one does not fit. But it is the only one that is true. I have seen it numerous times.
