Washington Times/Washington Free Beacon: U.S. warns of giant Chinese naval buildup: ‘Major qualitative improvements’
China has deployed a new high-speed anti-ship cruise missile and is sharply expanding an armada of advanced guided-missile warships and submarines, according to a naval intelligence report made public Thursday.
The Office of Naval Intelligence, in its first unclassified assessment of the Chinese navy in six years, revealed deployment of the new YJ-18 supersonic anti-ship cruise missile on warships and submarines that analysts say poses a major threat to U.S. and allied vessels. China’s current naval force of 300 surface ships, submarines, amphibious ships, and missile-armed patrol craft is rapidly expanding, the report says.

The "Free Beacon" isn't a news outlet so much as it is a propaganda rag run by grade-school neo-con dolts. Since the start of that rag in 2012 they've published the same article everyday. Here's the template: hyperbolic ramblings about Chinese military capabilities bases, Gubmint bad, Hillary Benghaziemailgate!!!! blah blah blah blah.
At least make an effort fellas.
True Anon about the Beacon .... but that is why I posted the same news item from other news sources ... including from extreme right wing conservative news outlets like the New York Times and The Diplomat.
THEY US ARE SCUM THATS WHY CHINA ARE ARMING SO HEAVILY US WERE ONCE GOOD NATION NOTHING BUT KILLERS ,COUP MAKERS ASSASSINS, SPIES
Without going into specifics, my 'line of work' was predicting this as far back as 1992.
Also without going into specifics, all this qualitative stuff isn't going to be optimally effective unless the Chinese make some permanent, fundamental changes. They've started, but in IMNSHO, likely won't be enough for anything within a five year time-frame.
Peter Saint James,
You are back to all caps. This weekend you did not post in all caps and I found that enjoyable.

The Free Beacon aggregates news stories. They do not make stuff up form whole cloth. They have the normal sins of selection and omission that other news outlets have. Given that they have a blog style for their outlet, they do not have the sin of placement such as the NYT has wit its' front page.
If news reporting was so good before the The Free Beacon was launched why are sites like WNU or Long War Journal popular?
LWJ was launched in protest to the scant on again, off again news coverage of the Big # and all the venerable papers.
WNU & LWJ are prima facie proof that the older news organization are not getting the job done. Thus they have competitors such as the Free Beacon.

I read anonymous' & Phillip's posts.
205 warships are a lot compared to 360. 57%. People have gone to war with worse odds (They had 16% of the world's industrial production capacity). They didn't win, but they tore 1/2 the planet up.
It really does not matter if you think or prove they can't win. They get a vote.
You get different answers depending how far you look. You look at budget and people will tell you "No possible way way. Look no farther". But there is the concept of purchasing power parity.
You look at the # of hulls it becomes more worrisome. But there is the quality factor.
And then there are the trends, alliances, and asymmetric warfare.
