Kiev Post: Poroshenko vows to impose martial law in case of offensive on Ukrainian forces in Donbas

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has said he will sign a decree imposing martial law across the country in the event of an offensive against the Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Donbas region.

"A key position: if the truce is violated, the dividing line crossed, and an offensive organized against the Ukrainian Armed Forces, at that same moment I will sign a decree imposing a martial law and hand it over to parliament," the president said on the "Year of Poroshenko" program on the occasion of the first anniversary of his presidency, aired on Ukrainian television channels on May 28 evening.

Update: Martial law in Ukraine can be declared within hours - Poroshenko -- RT

WNU Editor: In places like Kharkiv (where my aunt lives) .... the police and security presence is so overbearing that many who live there beleive that they are already living under martial law.Imposing martial law also runs a risk of losing debt relief from Western creditors who have their own rules and regulations on not providing aid or loans to countries that are essentially in a state of war.

If martial is declared, you can be assured Poroshenko was given an informal green light from the West. Poor Poroshenko, his reliance on the West will prove a bitter sweet experience.

Not true James,

Sweet, comfortable exile with all the loot you can carry, for Porshenko, VIP dinners and gala's,

Bitter for the Ukrainians who can't flee the Ukraine.
