Pentagon To Allow Transgenders To Serve Openly In The Military

Washington Post: Military to allow transgender members to serve openly

The Pentagon announced Monday that it will allow transgender members of the military to serve openly starting next year, marking an end to a long-standing policy that barred them from the armed forces.

In an echo of the Defense Department’s repeal of the ban on gays in uniform four years ago, Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter said he had directed the armed forces to devise new rules over the next six months that would allow transgender troops to serve, except in situations “where objective, practical impediments are identified.”

“We must ensure that everyone who’s able and willing to serve has the full and equal opportunity to do so, and we must treat all our people with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Carter said in a statement. He called the military’s current regulations “outdated” and said they were “causing uncertainty that distracts commanders from our core missions.”

This is certainly correct that this is not your grandfather's military. As a result of this decision along with previous decisions that have been made, I'd expect the already low morale among US forces to plummet even further and its already questionable viability as a legitimate fighting force to be eroded even further.

Next up polygamy will be recognized by the U.S. military. It might take 20 or 30 years.

however ion 2007 it did not seem like gay marriage would be implement in 10 years much less the 8 years it actually was.

Think of all the drama that COs will have to deal with now.

At this rate, I don't think its going to take that long. Of course at this rate I wouldn't expect the United States to survive long enough to implement polygamy in the military. Such a move would only be expected to further erode morality and with us in conflict with the world's strongest militaries such moves cannot be helpful to put things in the most charitable light.

Essentially if one is going to experiment with stupidity one should at least sue for peace with the world's most powerful countries. Of course if one is going to be stupid it seems unlikely one would recognize just how stupid one is. As such, they probably would do no such thing. As I've said before here and elsewhere, God help us all!!
